Special Registration and other Homeland Security Rules

SPECIAL REGISTRATION & OTHER HOMELAND SECURITY RULES:
CHART BASED ON COUNTRY OF BIRTH AND/OR NATIONALITY

The chart below summarizes the following, though this information is subject to rapid change:

1. Special registration requirements for those entering the U.S.

2. Special registration requirements for those already in the U.S.

3. Eligibility for visa revalidation through contiguous countries of the U.S.

Please note: This refers only to individuals who are making a brief trip (less than 30 days) to Mexico or Canada for business or pleasure. It does not apply to those who have made a visa application. No one of any nationality may reenter the U.S. on an expired visa if they have made a visa application and the visa was denied or is still pending.

4. Nationals subject to a Visa Condor security name check at visa issuance. Dual citizens may be subject to these requirements based on citizenship of either country.

Citizens of one country who were born in another country (even if they never were citizens or are no longer citizens of the birth country) may be subject to requirements imposed on nationals of either country.
Foreign nationals born in countries not listed below may also be subject to special registration and/or security checks, for reasons including, but not limited to, travel habits, the latest terrorist warnings, and demeanor at point of inspection.
The State Department requires all males between the ages of 16 and 45 (and other people, at the consulates’ discretion) to complete form DS-157 when applying for a visa. The State Department uses the information from DS-157 to conduct a “Visa Condor” (security) check on certain individuals based on classified criteria.
