MEMORANDUM
TO: Interested Persons
RE: Special Registration for Persons from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, and Syria
FROM: Edward R. Litwin
DATE: November 7, 2002
A rule, published on November 6, 2002, requires all nationals from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, and Syria, to go to a local immigration office and register if they meet the following criteria:
1. Male;
2. Born on or before November 15, 1986;
3. Last inspected and admitted on or before September 11, 2002;
4. Will remain in the United States at least until December 16, 2002.
Those people who meet these criteria must register on or before December 16, 2002 at locations throughout the United States. Failure to do so will constitute a failure to maintain nonimmigrant status, make the person deportable, and, thereafter, the person will be presumed to be ineligible on security grounds.
Registration must take place before December 16, 2002.
This new rule does not apply to permanent residents of the United States. For more information, please contact our office.
