DHS Extends TPS for El Salvador

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced the extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for El Salvador for 18 months, from March 10, 2025, to September 9, 2026. This extension allows eligible Salvadoran nationals to maintain TPS and employment authorization due to environmental conditions that prevent individuals from safely returning.

Re-registration is limited to individuals previously registered for and were granted TPS under El Salvador’s prior designation. Current beneficiaries must re-register during the 60-day re-registration period beginning when the Federal Register notice is published to ensure they keep their TPS and employment authorization. DHS automatically extends the validity of Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) previously issued under El Salvador’s TPS designation through March 9, 2026.

This extension ensures that Salvadoran nationals can continue to live and work in the United States while their home country recovers from environmental disasters.
